JT Rock, former All City student and now a junior at Lincoln High School, came to read to the ACE students on April 20th! He did a great job interacting with the students and engaging them into his reading! The students enjoyed asking him questions (mainly about how tall he is 😀) and he gave great advice to always work hard in school and in life. Thank you, JT, for coming to read! The kids loved it! Come again soon!

The stats are troubling-47% of SFSD students qualify for free/reduced lunches. Their family's income is not enough to make ends meet. That makes it difficult to support school fundraisers. Operation Hope & Caring helps! Get your tickets to the SF STORM game to support schools!

At lunch, students had an opportunity to earn a cartoon party during lunch in part of our PBIS behavior reward system. Students earned tickets during their lunch time when they were demonstrating traits of being responsible, respectful, and safe! K-3 earned a party on April 14! Nice work!

We had our first "Kinderpals" event on April 12. Kinderpals is an opportunity for our new incoming kindergartners and their families to get a sneak peek of our school day by attending school for a day, a school tour, meet our kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Pike, and meet with our principal, Mrs. VanDuyn to learn about upcoming expectations and experiences next year. Half of our current kindergarten class comes this day to then help/orient half of the incoming kindergartners in the school day. Next week the other half of each class will join. It was so great to see their excited smiling faces in our hallways! Welcome to ACE! We are glad you choose our school and are excited for you to begin next year!

It was Technology Week in Family! Kids love getting to code on Osmo Jam, draw codes for their Ozobots, and play coding games on Interland! Students rotate from Family to Family to enjoy these experiences. We love these items because some were previous gifts from parents and grants from the Sioux Falls Public Education Foundation. We enjoy all of these opportunities for our kids to learn!

Every day our 4th and 5th graders help keep our after school pick up running smoothly by assisting as safety patrol helpers. They open car doors, help keep other kids safe, send our students home with a smile and a "have a nice day!" This past week they started training our third graders until the end of the year in preparation for them doing it next year. We have really great leaders in our school! Thank you to Mrs. Gray and Miss Nelson for helping with the training process and Brandon Riss for organizing the Safety Patrol schedule. Thank you for the flexibility of the families in picking up their kids later while they are assisting.
