Keep your students fueled to learn! SFSD is no longer able to offer free meals to all students. Now is a great time to add money to their My School Bucks account. Or, for families with qualifying income, it is important to fill out the Free/Reduced Meal application! Log on to the Parent Portal in Infinite Campus to apply! If you have questions or need help filling out the application please call 605-367-6180. We are happy to help! Please note: if your student does not have a free/reduced lunch application on file, you will be charged full price for breakfast and lunch starting the first day of school. Thank you!

Hungry caterpillars
The first ever GMMS summer camp wrapped up last week with two small groups of students. Students tie dyed shirts, made their own pizza and brownies, put up tents, hiked, swam, started fires for outdoor cooking, saw a science demonstration, watched a CineDome film, and even participated in a theater workshop where they learned stage makeup and stage combat. They were warmly welcomed and represented George McGovern well at the Washington Pavilion, Old Courthouse Museum, Big Sioux Rec Park, Falls Park, Levitt Sioux Falls, and the Terrace Park Pool. We would like to thank all the places we went, as well as Amanda Berg, the Boys and Girls Club, School Bus Inc, Breadsmith, Walmart, Costco, Sunshine Foods Downtown, General Kills, Pizza Ranch, Chick-Fil-A, and Promising Futures for their generous contributions to help make these two weeks possible.

We celebrate hard! Today at GMMS we recognized 461 students for one of the following reasons: earning a 3 or 4, growing within their level, or moving up an entire level on the South Dakota State Assessment! Of those, 80 students moved up a level in Math and 91 in ELA. Woohoo! This news is worth celebrating and we sure did! Eagles, you should be proud!

The GMMS library, led by teacher-librarian Mrs. Wolles, was awarded the 21st Century School Library Award and recognized as Exemplary Status. The South Dakota State Library, a division of the SD Department of Education, formally and annually recognizes schools with libraries that meet the characteristics of a 21st century school library through its place, professional, and program. Congrats, to Mrs. Wolles! What an honor!
